Community Discussion Guidelines

Cultivating healthy and productive conversation online is a team effort. Here's how we can be successful at it, together.

Our commitment

At VolunteerMatch, we reserve the right to promote causes, events, information, perspectives and opinions that progress civil society as we understand it. We're committed to using our presence across various platforms on the web to encourage open and healthy discussion, and to bring inspiration, optimism, and hope to the world, all while reflecting our values as a community-building organization.

If a community member transgresses a ground rule herein, we maintain the authority to hide or delete the comment or contribution, and if the offense warrants it, block the offender. We believe that, above all else, the VolunteerMatch community should be one in which all members feel safe to engage.

Platforms on which these guidelines are in effect include: the VolunteerMatch blog, VolunteerMatch-owned social media accounts, and any other web presence owned or managed by VolunteerMatch that facilitates conversation amongst community members.

List of do's when engaging with VolunteerMatch content online

  • Do post comments, questions, critiques and suggestions that contribute to our vision of a more just, inclusive, and equitable society.
  • Do communicate kindly and courteously with others at all times—especially when offering constructive criticism.
  • Do engage on VolunteerMatch platforms with an open-mind and an open heart.
  • Do contact us if you feel intimidated or bullied by another member.

List of don'ts when engaging with VolunteerMatch content online

  • Don't post spam. We consider spam to be any content that is solely promotional, linking to a malicious website, fundraising requests, or commentary that is otherwise irrelevant to the topic at hand.
  • Don't post hate speech. This includes language that is racist, xenophobic, homophobic, sexist, or otherwise derogatory toward a person or group of people. We err on the side of caution, so if there is any doubt that it fits the criteria above, it will be removed.
  • Don't post language or content that is fraudulent, deceptive, misleading, abusive, defamatory, obscene, or in violation to another’s intellectual property.
  • Don't bully another community member.

Any comments or opinions shared by community members on pages owned or operated by VolunteerMatch are those of their respective contributors only. The views expressed by outside contributors do not represent the views of VolunteerMatch, its management, or employees, and unless otherwise engaged with, VolunteerMatch does not endorse those views. VolunteerMatch reserves the right to update or modify these community discussion guidelines at any time.

Thank for your understanding and we look forward to thoughtful and productive discussion!
